Crossbow Netball Club
Running for more than 50 years!
Crossbow Netball club was started way back in 1971 by a few local ladies who wanted a friendly game of netball. As word spread the club soon blossomed and Crossbow Netball club was formed.
During the '80s Crossbow's home was at Crossbow House in Frampton Cotterell hence our club name. Back then we had one outdoor netball court in the middle of the park, so on a rainy day everyone arrived in muddy trainers! As the club grew the decision was made to move from Crossbow House to the Jubilee Centre in Bradley Stoke where we could hire two flood lit courts to train on.
Over the years the club has gone from strength to strength attracting new members from all over Bristol at a rapid pace. We now train at Clifton College Sports Centre in Abbots Leigh. We consider ourselves to be a competitive club and have an impressive 5 senior teams. Our first team competes in the South West Regional Division 3. Our other 4 teams play in Divisions Prem, 1, 4 and 6 of the Avon League.
We’re also very proud to run a large Junior section with Under 12, Under 14 and Under 16 teams playing in the Junior Avon League; as well as Hi-5 for our younger primary age netballers. For further information please see the Junior section of our website.
As well as competing, our club actively promotes umpiring and encourages coaching and volunteering. Crossbow has a solid foundation, great committee and a fantastic volunteering team. We provide opportunities and mentoring for members who would like to gain umpiring qualifications and we actively encourage members to get involved with the running of the club.
As well as playing, we’re a social bunch and arrange various events such as team and club nights out, Christmas parties and of course our annual weekend away!
